Swivel cleat bases permit easy cleating and releasing from any angle. Dead eyes contain stainless steel liners for low friction and long life. Cleating plates are heavy gauge alloys for stiffness and minimum distortion under load.

A "dead eye" is a round, typically wooden, block with holes through which a line (rope) can be inserted. It's frequently used to create a turning point or to change the course of a line. A "swivel" dead eye includes a spinning mechanism that allows it to turn freely, which can be advantageous for decreasing friction and wear on the rope.
A cleat is a device with protruding arms or horns that a line can be looped around to secure it. A "fairlead" is a fitting that directs the line and keeps it from chafing or rubbing against other surfaces. A "cleat fairlead" most likely combines these two functions, allowing a line to be fastened while simultaneously creating a smooth course for the line to follow.
